Philosophy of Teaching

I believe that the process of teaching and learning is one in which each individual constructs meaning from their experiences as they negotiate their roles, relationships, and responsibilities within and across contexts.

As a teacher, I believe that my role is to build trusting relationships with students and their families and to provide opportunities for students to make connections between present realities, past experiences, and future possibilities.

My responsibility to my students goes beyond simply imparting knowledge and extends to empowering them to take responsibility for their own learning.

In a technology driven information rich society, I need to model responsible communication and collaborative problem solving.

As I teach students how to access and respond to information, my expectation is that they will become conscientious contributors to a growing body of knowledge in a democratic society.

I understand that my approach to teaching will either facilitate or inhibit each of my student’s growth towards his or her own potential.
