Ridge View High School
Scholars Academy

The Ridge View Scholars Academy is a very selective program designed for the motivated, high achieving academic students. The Academy offers a rigorous program of study designed to prepare students for completion of the Advanced Placement courses offered through the College Board. Recognizing that our scholars have different abilities and interests, students may focus their studies in a concentrated cluster of courses in either history and the humanities, or in math and science. If a student wishes to do so, it is possible to include AP courses from both clusters. Students receive intensive preparation for college work beginning in the freshman year through a pre-AP curriculum. In the sophomore year students are introduced to their first AP courses. To ease the challenges presented by a rigorous academic program, the Academy uses a mentoring program which matches incoming freshmen with upper class mentors. These relationship continues throughout the secondary years. A mandatory tutoring program is required for students with an average of 78 or below.

To fully involve parents in their children's education, the Academy also sponsors a parent organization, Parents of Scholars. This group meets monthly to address concerns and exchange information about the program, summer enrichment activities, the college search process and scholarship applications. The Parents of Scholars organization provides financial support for the activities of the Academy and the Scholars Symposium through contributions to the Ridge View Education Foundation and also contributes funding for the annual Scholars Banquet. The Banquet celebrates the individual achievement of Academy members and recognizes the completion of the program by seniors through the awarding of a special Scholars Academy Diploma.

Membership in the Scholars Academy immerses students in an environment that is both demanding and nurturing. Completion of the program brings recognition for service and academic achievement. It is not uncommon for student body officers to come from the ranks of Academy members. A sizable number of Academy students receive recognition from the College Board as AP Scholars for the successful completion of multiple AP courses. While Academy members comprise only about seven percent of the student body, they account for nearly three quarters of the scholarships received by Ridge View seniors each year.
