MY TEACHERS AND STUDENTS: I thank my sixth grade teacher, Julianne Blakely Thornton, for recognizing in me a kindred literary spirit and encouraging me as a writer and reader. To my students-who are also my teachers- I hope to serve you as well as I have been served.
