Institute for BioHealth Sciences
BioHealth science involves the study and application of principles of natural sciences as they relate to living organisms in the area of medicine. This dynamic field offers a wide variety of professions such as medical doctors, dentists, physical therapists, nurse practitioners, biomedical engineers, veterinarians, genetic engineers and pharmacists.
Students in the four-year institute will participate in a rigorous and comprehensive program that will include Honors and AP science courses. Students will broaden their academic knowledge in health sciences through experiential learning to create ethical professionals who lead through citizenship, leadership, and commitment.
The principles of experiential learning integrated with reflective processes will be used to immerse the students in the health sciences environment. Students will participate in field studies, conferences, internships, group presentations, virtual surgery projects, and other activities. Also, they will be expected to keep an electronic portfolio of their experiences and reflections throughout their high school career as they progress in this program. The capstone of this program will be the presentation of the students’ portfolios to the Magnet School Board.
Students will intern during the summer of their junior year.
