Ridge View High School Summer Reading Program

All students at Ridge View High School will be responsible for choosing one novel from the Ridge View Summer Reading List

Freshmen enrolled in the Ridge View Scholar's Academy English 1 or English 1 Honors will ALSO need to read the following two novels:

Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

Please make sure that both of these novels are read by the first day of classes. There is no project or summer work attached to them (besides the reading), but we will begin studying them on the second day with the understanding students have read them both. On 6/3/11, I placed an order with Books-a-Million at Sandhills for 30 copies. If you go to the counter, they should have them held behind the desk. As teachers are uncertain of enrollment numbers, this quantity might not be enough.

First piece of advice: Start your summer reading as soon as possible

Second piece of advice: Think while you read.

Third piece of advice: write notes at the end of each chapter for plot summary, character development, and thematic concepts.
